The tubercles of Dracontium are more or less elongate, ovoid to ellipsoid or cylindrical and often laterally compressed, each 0.5-3 cm long and 0.5-1 cm diam ( Fig. 5-7 ). They are light brown in color, often with more than one darker growing point on each tubercle. Most of the time, they are dormant. When nearly free from the tuber, they are somewhat shortened into an irregular shape with a fleshy young bud, and may even develop independent roots ( Fig. 8 ).
